Film Cameras

We love Vinyl Records, Steam Trains, Flash Bulbs and Classic cars. We will be keeping our film cameras in working condition for as long as we possibly can.

GP CAMERA

GPCAM Animation

The "GP" is a Standard rackover Mitchell which we have rebuilt with a PL mount and have attached a very large servo motor, We like to think this makes it the last word in tricked out VFX film cameras.

We built the camera because we had always been dissatisfied with the timelapse footage from cameras like the Arri 435 with the ICS and Digital Stills cameras.

The reason we disliked it was that these cameras have a large reset time between frames, which mean't that you got (for instance) a four second exposure then a two second reset and then a four second exposure, digital stills cameras are worse as they have a variable time between frames (due to buffering issues). Because of this there is often no reference from frame to frame (for instance any car headlights that were in the first frame will have long gone by the time the second frame has started to expose).

This Video shows the camera running at 8 seconds per frame with a 180 degree shutter(so a four second exposure then four seconds of dark).

This video Shows the camera running at 8 Seconds per frame with a 1/50th second pulldown, an almost 360 degree shutter(So an eight second exposure and then a 1/50 second pulldown)

This video shows the shutter running at 8 seconds per frame with a 180 degree shutter on the left hand side of the picture and on the right the shutter running with a 360 degree shutter.

The camera also works as a regular "Stepper motor" driven camera so can do all the Kuper tricks such as "Synthetic shutter angles" and Speed ramps.
